Dear campaigners,

This is a kind reminder that we have a very interesting webinar lined up in a few hours. Registration is open and done via the link below. Hope to see you there!

This Wednesday, 13 March at 20.00-21.30pm UTC // Thursday 14 March 8.00-9.30am Majuro, ICAN is inviting you to a webinar exploring the human rights legacy of the Castle Bravo nuclear test in the Marshall Islands and beyond. Two weeks after the 70th anniversary of Castle Bravo and one week after International Women’s Day, we’ll take an extra look at the gendered and environmental impacts, and we have a truly high-level set of experts joining us to share about their insights and ongoing work (follow the link or see below).

About the webinar:

As the Marshall Islands commemorates the 70th anniversary of the US detonation of the Castle Bravo nuclear test, about 1,000 times as powerful as the Hiroshima bomb, the Human Rights Council has mandated a new study on the human rights legacy of nuclear weapons testing in the Marshall Islands. On 4 March, 14 UN experts issued a joint statement urging states to address the human rights legacy of testing. One week after the anniversary of the Castle Bravo test, the world marks International Women’s Day. The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) invites you to a high-level webinar to educate members of the ICAN campaign and the broader public about the lasting human rights legacy, including gendered and environmental impacts, of the Castle Bravo nuclear explosion.

Panelists:

Benetick Maddison, Executive Director, Marshallese Educational Initiative

Raphael Pangalangan, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

Melissa Parke, Executive Director, International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons

Bedi Racule, Pacific Conference of Churches

Diego Valadares Vasconcelos Neto, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

Moderator: Lina Hjärtström, ICAN

Hope to see many of you there!

All the best,
Lina
